What is the Paris BPU Surge Protection Program?

This program was designed as a way to equip our residential customers with the tools to protect their appliances from a power surge. The meter base unit protects residential “standard white appliances.”

What appliance are considered “standard white appliances?”
  • Washer
  • Dryer
  • Stove
  • Microwave
  • Refrigerator
  • Freezer
  • Dishwasher
  • Garbage Disposal
What doesn’t the Paris BPU Surge Protection Program cover?

The meter base surge protection does not protect home computers, televisions and/or electronics. Most of the electronics today have co-ax connections for cable televisions, satellite dish or receivers. This does not protect well pumps, sprinkler systems or hard-wired security systems either.

How does the program work?

Once you have signed up for the program and the protection device has been installed by a Paris BPU employee, there is up to $1,000.00 to repair or replace (whichever is of the lesser value) residential “standard white appliances” which sustain surge damage. Maximum coverage per household is $10,000.00.

How much does this program cost?

The program is $4.95 per month and will be included in your monthly utility bill. Payment must be current for any or all warranties from the vendor and manufacturer to be in effect.

Additional Information

If the Paris BPU customer buys individual surge protection from retail stores, they will be covered by whatever manufacturer warranty that is provided by the manufacturer of that device.
