Established as the first service line of the Paris Board of Public Utilities in 1938, the Paris BPU Electric Department understands the vital role they play in our community. Our electric department currently serves over 21,000 customers and maintains over 1,600 miles of electric lines in Henry County.

The mission of the Paris Board of Public Utilities Electric Department is to provide reliable, safe and affordable power to the residents of Paris and Henry County.  Electric operations personnel are committed to providing all of our customers with excellent service. Our team of linemen, engineers, tree trimmers, locators, and meter technicians are well trained, dedicated and motivated to providing the best service possible to our customers. We are ready to serve.

The operation of an electric system is a 24-hour, 365-day-a-year job. We strive to keep interruptions of power to a minimum. In the event of a planned outage, we will make every attempt to contact customers in advance and include information about the planned outage(s) on our social media pages. In the event of an unplanned interruption of power, our crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to assess the situation and get power restored. Be sure to follow Paris BPU on Facebook, X and/or Instagram to stay informed about current outages. You can also view current outages in your area via our live outage tracker!

The Paris Board of Public Utilities is a member of the Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association. Through this membership, we are able to purchase the most economic power available at any given time, and deliver it to our customers. Cost savings are passed directly to our customers.

We are also members of the American Public Power Association. This allows us easy access to ever changing laws and regulations in the electric industry to ensure that the Paris BPU is in full compliance as well as access to information regarding safety and best practices.

In 2010 Paris BPU earned the prestigious RP3 designation from the American Public Power Association for the first time. The American Public Power Association’s Reliable Public Power Provider program recognizes utilities that demonstrate high proficiency in reliability, safety, workforce development and system improvement. Designation is given every three years and Paris BPU has received the designation in 2010, 2015, 2018, and 2021.
