The rEVolution is coming…
If you have watched the news or any television lately, you have likely seen commercials about company’s like Amazon and GM’s commitment to reducing their carbon emissions. Not only are Electric Vehicles (EVs) growing in popularity for businesses, they are growing in popularity amongst general consumers as well.
As our customers trusted energy provider, Paris BPU has recently purchased our own EV to allow us to learn the in’s and out’s of electric vehicles and charging stations to help us better educate and serve potential ev owners in our community.
EV Basics
There are three types of electric vehicles:
Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)
HEVs have an internal combustion engine that runs on conventional or alternative fuel and an electric motor powered by a battery. The battery is charged by regenerative braking, and the vehicle does not need to be plugged in for charging.
Plug-In Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)
PHEVs have an internal combustion engine that can run on conventional or alternative fuel and an electric motor powered by a battery. The vehicle can be plugged in to charge the battery, and regenerative braking also charges the battery.
All-Electric Vehicles (EVs)
EVs have an electric motor powered by a battery. The vehicle is plugged in for charging, and regenerative braking also charges the battery. Newer models are available with extended ranges, so you can drive further without charging.
