Paris, TN – The Paris Board of Public Utilities has received a national commendation from the American Public Power Association for its support in electric power restoration efforts in Lexington, Tennessee.
On October 27, 2019, the Paris Board of Public Utilities sent six (6) linemen to assist Lexington Electric Service (LES), which suffered widespread outages because of multiple storms impacting their service area. Linemen assisting in restoration efforts included: Jeremy Burkhart, Ben White, Josh French, Jeff Perry, Josef Neumair and Ethan Dicus.
With over half of the Lexington Electric System customers being without power and over 600 damaged poles, BPU crews assisted with restoration of power in various parts of the LES service area over a 24-hour period before returning to Paris.
“Sending aid to other power providers when they have been hit hard is public power on display at its finest,” said BPU General Manager, Terry Wimberley. “Paris BPU has a history of providing mutual aid and we are proud to be able to assist our neighbors in need.”
The Paris Board of Public Utilities participates in the American Public Power Association’s Mutual Aid Network, which coordinates with utilities and authorities during widespread power outages.
